Become a ‘Mako Mathlete’ in 2020!

How are you enjoying math in the new ATAR system? Finding it super challenging or just looking for extra study?

Be a ‘Mako Mathlete’ every Tuesday morning from 7:30 am to pastoral, Marymount will be offering an ATAR math club study session.

‘Mako Mathlete’ sessions will allow for assistance in your respective maths or just provide extra study for your upcoming exam.
Thank you to the 2020 Academic Captains Pierce Greffe and Carly Griffith for surveying the cohort to support this club. Also, to Dawson Law-Gezo for designing our Mako Mathlete logo.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask one of the teachers listed above.

Mathematics Challenge for Year 7 and 8!

Congratulations on a great start to 2020 in Mathematics!
All students now have access to MANGAHIGH and have been introduced to the first challenge for the year.

We are running this challenge for all Year 7 and 8 students because when students automatically recall their time's table and related number facts, they free up space in their working memory which enables them to process higher-order tasks (eg. problem-solving). Committing times table facts to long term memory, to be recalled efficiently, requires 'long term potentiation' - the process in our brain where the same neural pathway is activated repetitively, resulting in synaptic changes in the area of our brain that stores long term memory. A cleverly designed maths game can provide a smart and efficient way to help develop long term memory of table facts.

Students have until the end of Week 5 to complete all twenty-four activities. Students can unlock a bronze, silver, or gold medal for each activity.  Any student who unlocks at least a bronze medal on all activities will earn their Times Table License!
