Junior Years (7-9)

The Junior Years are where the journey truly begins. Curiosity deepens, confidence grows and young people begin to see the world, and themselves, differently. It's a time of new horizons, new friendships and the first sparks of independence. At Marymount, students are guided, supported and inspired as they step into who they are becoming.

A Supported Beginning

The transition from Primary to Secondary is both exciting and profound. Our transition program helps students feel grounded from their first day, offering the reassurance of familiar faces, clear routines and a community ready to welcome them in. As adolescents seek autonomy and form their own identity, we continue to honour the essential partnership between school and family, walking alongside parents as their children grow in confidence and independence.

Learning That Opens Doors

Academic learning is the heart of the Junior Secondary experience. Our curriculum is shaped by the Australian Curriculum, our Whole School pedagogy and Marzano's The Art and Science of Teaching. It challenges students to think deeply, act responsibly and take ownership of their learning.

Across Years 7 and 8, students study core subjects - Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Health & Physical Education - while exploring a rotation of electives that spark curiosity and reveal new interests. In Year 8, students choose four semester‑long electives, beginning to shape a pathway that reflects their strengths.

By Year 9, students step further into choice. With a broad range of electives and strong foundations in core subjects, they begin to imagine the possibilities ahead - from senior pathways to future careers. Our staff guide families through these decisions with care and experience.
