What is 153 Degrees East?
"153 Degrees East" forms the basis for Marymount College's co-curricular and enrichment program suite.
The name "153 Degrees East" is inspired by the longitude of Burleigh, which stands at 153 degrees east. This geographical reference is deeply significant as it connects to a powerful biblical story. In John 21:6, Jesus advises Peter to cast their net on the right side of the boat after the disciples had spent the entire night fishing without any success. Following Jesus' guidance, they cast their net and miraculously caught 153 fish.
This story not only highlights the importance of perseverance and faith but also signifies the abundance and success that comes from following wise guidance. Just as Peter and the disciples experienced a transformative moment by heeding Jesus' advice, we believe that our students will embark on meaningful and life-giving learning through the "153 Degrees East" program.
By naming our co-curricular program after this significant longitude point, we aim to inspire our students to explore new horizons, embrace challenges and achieve their fullest potential, much like the miraculous catch of fish.
