Gold Coast Secondary Schools’ Drama Festival
Marymount College entered three plays into the Gold Coast Secondary Schools’ Drama Festival in 2021.
The Junior play (Year 7 and 8 students) I never saw another butterfly was a poignant and harrowing play that centred on children kept in concentration camps in Terezin, Auschwitz. The play was directed by Ms Melanie Howe and was awarded many Highly Commended certificates. The play was awarded the Runners Up trophy for the section.
The Intermediate play (Year 9 and 10 students) Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream was directed by Mrs Tamara Sharpe. The play was a frolicking comedy with an extremely large cast. Portia Cush and Josie Hamilton were awarded an Actor’s Trophy for the section, Rylan Purnell-Webb was awarded the Best Supporting Actor’s trophy and the play was awarded the Best Comic trophy for the section.
The Senior play (Year 11 and 12 students) Engine was a harrowing and hard-hitting play that focused on a family struggling with the loss of their son/brother through a teenage car accident. The play was directed by Ms Melanie Howe, many Highly Commended certificates were awarded and Mia Gilbert received a Best Actors trophy.
