Marymount Day

4 Houses, One Home

We were blessed to have our two schools together under one roof. On Friday, September 6th, we gathered to give thanks for:

  • The beauty of Burleigh Waters, where we learn every day.

  • The safety and care provided by our parents, guardians, and teachers.

  • The friendship and support from our school community.

As one Marymount, we prayed for Mary, our mother, to guide us in our journey of learning and faith, focussing on our theme for 2024, Four Houses, One Home.

Highlights of the Day:

  • First Reading: A passage from St. Paul’s letter to the Romans, reminding us of God’s cooperation with those who love Him.

  • Artist Statement:Our Senior Visual Art students presented ornaments of Mary, inscribed with lines from the Hail Mary, as a reminder to seek grace, comfort, and spiritual support. The four coloured windows represented the houses of Marymount, each featuring a flower or plant associated with Mary:

  • Bulimah: Blue cornflower, symbolizing hope and often used as a crown for Mary.

  • Allambee: Downward-facing daffodil, representing Mary watching over us from Heaven.

  • Katandra: Rose, the queen of all flowers, symbolizing Mary as Queen of Heaven.

  • Patanga: Evergreen ivy, representing Mary’s faithfulness to God.

Acknowledgments:

Thank you to Jen Gorman and Maeve Hitchen for their countless hours of preparation with a large portion of our Visual Arts students who brought this masterpiece together.

We are extremely grateful for the music throughout liturgy that was performed beautifully by the Year 11 Band.
