Another term of diplomacy has gone be! The Marymount United Nations program recorded the highest number of participants this year so far during Thursday afternoon UN sessions.
This busy term included a visit from a guest speaker Mr Luc Campbell (a former Marymount UN Program alumni) and an interesting guest lecture from our Marymount College Spanish teacher Mrs Aileen Seidman – about her experiences of growing up and living in, what is now, the failed state of Venezuela.
The Resolution being discussed by our delegations in regards to Nuclear Energy, mining and weapons. A pertinent and often reoccurring topic in our world. The resolution as passed is below:
“Preamble:
The Marymount United Nations 243 General Assembly recognises the need for clean power across all nations and sustainable mining practices.
Indicates that nuclear power and mining can be a powerful positive or negative force.
Acknowledges the importance of resolving the issue and dangers of nuclear mining.
Acknowledges that creating safeguards against dangerous production, waste management, and general safekeeping of nuclear power and mining is crucial.
Suggests that nuclear waste should properly be disposed of.
Discourages the use of nuclear weapons, especially in the wake of tragedies such as Nagasaki, Hiroshima, and Fukushima.
Discourages the act of over-mining and over-production of uranium.”
Congratulations to all the delegates. We look forward to Marymount United Nations General Assembly 244 next term.
